CustomMade.com

My work can now be found on CutomMade.com. It's a web site that features all custom made work like furniture and sculpture and all kinds of fantastic stuff. There are some ready made pieces that you can purchase right off of the site as well as finding people who can make just what you need to fill that special place. If you have been looking for something special check out the site and find the link to an artist who can make it for you.

I have my totem poles on the site as well as some of my animal sculptures and tables. This photo is of my "Two Birds Totem" which is just over 5 feet tall. As with all of my pieces it is high fired stoneware and can be used indoors or out.

Thanksgiving Craft Fairs

Thanksgiving weekend is going to be a busy one! I will be at the Celebration of the Craftswomen at Fort Mason in San Francisco for the first time this year. My booth number is 519 - please stop by and say hello. I have a few discount postcards left. If you need one send me your address and I'll get one off to you. I will be bringing my blue frog pottery as well as some of my new maroon glaze. I hope to fit a totem pole or two in the car as well along with my Christmas ornaments.

If you are spending the weekend up in the Mendocino area I'll also have a booth up at the MUSE Craft Fair at the Recreation Center in Mendocino. This is the second year for this fair and it was a huge success last year. Part of the proceeds from this fair go to support art and music in our local schools - a great cause.

Hope to see you at the fair!

Edgewater Gallery is having a show of my new work for the month of October. There will be some new pieces in my totem pole series as well as my new "Woodland" pieces. These came from my idea to make some smaller scale stacked work. I got the idea to use a piece of wood for the base instead of the metal bases I use on the large work. After a trek through the woods and dragging back a wonderful twisted piece of redwood root I got a reality check from a woodworking friend on what would need to be done to turn my wet, mossy chunk of wood into a sculpture base. I had an aha! moment of realizing that it would be a lot more fun for me to make the wood from clay than to try and re-fashion the real wood into the shape I was ultimately looking for. My new series uses a variety of hand-made wood shapes and sizes to support the sculptures above.

Edgewater Gallery is located at 356 N. Main St. in Fort Bragg, CA.

Well craft fair season is in full swing. I just finished the MUSE Summer Fair in Mendocino which was a great success. The commission from the fair went to helping keep art in the local K -12 schools. It's a great cause and made all of us artists feel good that we were helping out.

Next up is the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts on August 28th and 29th. The fair is on University Avenue and has 200 artists work on display. The followingt weekend, Labor Day, I'll be at the King's Mountain Art Fair in Woodside. If you've never been to that one try and come. It is set in the redwoods and is a really special fair. It too benefits a good cause supporting the volunteer fire department.

Other news... I'm pleased to have my work at the Dolphin Gallery in Gualala, CA. They currently have a selection of my frog pottery.

I'm featured in the cover story for the Mendocino Coast Property Real Estate Magazine volume 24. It will be on the news stands from July 9th to the 22nd. You can also read the article on-line at http://www.realestatemendocino.com/editorial_600.htm

Animal Art at John O'Lague Gallery

Well I've gotten behind on posting to my blog so I'm going to do an update of the last month. My show, Animal Art, opened last Friday at the John O'Lague Gallery in Hayward. It's in the City Hall building on B Street in Hayward, CA. This is the first time I've shown only animal sculptures. It will run until July 23rd. I also have 2 totem poles back at the Christensen-Heller Gallery in Oakland, CA. It's nice to be back there again!

After the success of 'Behind the Garden Wall' I've been held over at Dimensions Galleria in Petaluma, CA. They will continue to show both my totem poles and my frog pottery.

Edgewater Gallery in Fort Bragg is hosting a show of artworks by artists from Miasa/Omachi Japan. They have sent over beautiful pieces and it is such a treat to get to enjoy them for the month. The show will run through June.

My work  is included in a just released book by Schiffer Publishing called Ceramics Today. It is a survey of current ceramic art and includes 495  color photographs by 120 ceramic artists. The book was edited by Jeffrey B. Snyder and the ISBN is 978-0-7643-3465-8. It looks like a beautiful book and I can't wait to get my copy!

There I Fixed It

In the DIY spirit I decided to do something about the hole in my ceiling. Carpentry is not my thing so I thought I'd go about filling it a different way. Having made the hole by a slip of my foot it seemed right to fill the hole with a foot. Much better!

Dimensions Galleria Opening

The opening reception for 'Beyond the Garden Wall' at Dimensions Galleria in Petaluma, CA was tons of fun. I met so many terrific people and a whole bunch of artists from the Sonoma area. There is quite a variety of work in the show - something for everyone. If you are in the area before the end of May it is well worth a visit.

Potter's Council Porcelain Workshop

I just got back from a fabulous workshop in not-so-sunny San Diego. The weekend focused on working with porcelain. The highlights for me were the presentations by Tom and Elaine Coleman. I've long been an admirer of their work so it was really fun to get to meet them and watch them work. i got to bring home a sample of Coleman Porcelain which I'm anxious to try. I haven't thrown with porcelain in MANY years so I'm up for the challenge. If nothing else it will make beautiful angel Christmas ornaments.I usually use a white stoneware when I make them but the translucency of the porcelain will be really nice. Several of the presenters were using porcelain slip to enhance their surfaces. It was goopy and thick and wonderfully textural. I've been doing a lot of stamping in my own work recently so we'll see if I take a fork in the road to try some slip work.

If you are in Anderson Valley that weekend be sure to stop by and see it.
